Desperate Housewives – Jesse Metcalfe’s Friends Stand By Him

10-05-2009 by admin

In the chaos that defines the world of show businesses, it comes as no surprise that celebrities, old and young alike, turn to desperate measures in order to cope with the stress and pressures of being in the limelight.

Going into high-end rehabilitation centers seems to be a flourishing trend among the entertainment community today. Pop artist Britney Spears made headlines again in early 2007 when she shaved her head bald before checking into a treatment center based in Miami, Florida. Now, its former Desperate Housewives star, Jesse Metcalfe, who has found himself in a distressing situation, and in an attempt to battle his alcoholism, has entered a rehabilitation center located in Los Angeles.

Among those who were shocked to hear about the news was his former Desperate Housewives co-star, Eva Longoria. Longoria got to know Metcalfe very well, and the fact that he has a serious drinking problem is contradictory to the person she remembers from the set. Nevertheless, the star has pledged nothing but support for Metcalfe, and is happy that he has decided to act responsibly.

Metcalfe is also getting a lot of support from his girlfriend, Nadine Coyle, a member of the British female music group, Girls Aloud. Metcalfe and Coyle met in Australia in 2006, and has since then become a celebrity couple. They separated very briefly in November, and a few days before Metcalfe went to the rehabilitation center, rumors were flying that they had tied the knot. Coyle’s father, Niall, was also caught unaware of Metcalfe’s condition, and even thought that the young actor was not much of a drinker. In addition, Niall says that her daughter is extremely saddened about Metcalfe and is upset that she did not catch any telltale signs.

Although Metcalfe rose to fame with his portrayal of handsome teenager John Rowland in the popular television series, Desperate Housewives, he first appeared in the small screen with a starring role in the soap opera, Passions. His other acting credits include Smallville, John Tucker Must Die and 44 Minutes: The North Hollywood Shoot-Out.

The Good-Looking Cast of Grey’s Anatomy

18-04-2009 by admin

Grey’s Anatomy is currently the #1 television show in the universe. It’s given time slot competitor CSI: a beat down, something that the Vegas-set, formulaic, turd producer has never experienced before. Grey’s Anatomy is a very good show with an extremely attractive cast. EXTREMELY attractive. What makes Grey’s good television is it’s unique humor, it’s ability to balance that huge cast and numerous storylines, and the strangely riveting medical subplots. But, we understand all of that. What I’m interested in are the hot chicks.

Actually, that’s not be entirely true. While I’m not “interested” in the dudes on the show, they’ll need to be added to the discussion. What discussion, you ask? Obviously, TV has always been a medium for the beautiful. But, how important is it, actually? Sure, you always want an alluring cast, but casting directors have always shied away from the total shamelessness of an all-attractive cast. Still, the attractiveness of a shows cast must have some effect on it’s ratings, right?

My thesis is bold: Grey’s Anatomy has the most effectively attractive cast in the history of television and that’s a big factor in making Grey’s Anatomy the top-rated show in America. Obviously, this is an unquantifiable assertion. Yet, it makes perfect sense when you break it down.

Grey’s Anatomy has a humongous cast. This certainly makes things easier. Television comedies can’t compete with a show like Grey’s simply because they have less people to be attractive. The best looking sitcom cast ever is probably “Friends”, and that’s only on the strength of Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston, two Hall-of-Famers. However, I’m looking at the whole spectrum here, which means adding the male contingent of the cast to the argument. Friends doesn’t fare as well in that department.

The only shows that can really compete with the Grey’s Anatomy cast are the prime time soap operas, the most formidable one probably being “Beverly Hills 90210″. Now, for sake of the argument, I’m only taking into account casts who were on-the-air together. This means Tiffani Amber-Thiessen cannot be considered in the same cast as Shannen Doherty (although it wouldn’t really matter, considering Doherty was never that hot in the first place). At one point, Thiessen, Jennie Garth, Hilary Swank, Jason Priestly, and Luke Perry were all on the same show. However, their were some other cast members who brought the attractiveness down considerably (mainly Ian Zeiring.)

My point is, there are other shows that may compete with Grey’s hotness; it is, of course, entirely subjective anyway (maybe you find the cast of “The View” aesthetically pleasing). But, what I said was that Grey’s Anatomy had the most effectively attractive cast ever. This isn’t any easier to quantify, but I think it’ll be easier for all of us to agree on. The reason Grey’s Anatomy has the best looking cast ever is because of the diversity of it’s attractiveness. Take a look.

Girl Next Door Who Got Really Hot – Dr. Elizabeth Grey (Ellen Pompeo)

Older Heartthrob – Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey)

Younger Heartthrob – Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers)

Voluptuous, Sexy Blonde – Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl)

Proper, Statuesque, Black Man – Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington)

Hot, Older Brunette – Dr. Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh)

Geeky, Awkward Dude – Dr. George O’Malley (T.R. Knight)

Quirky, Cute Asian – Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh)

Uninhibited, Chubby Sex Kitten – Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez)

Do you see why this is the number one show in America? Almost any type of person that anyone could possibly be attracted to is represented on Grey’s Anatomy. Women can choose between the young good-looking guy, the older good-looking guy, the black good-looking guy, or the shy guy. Men get the super-cute brunette, the extremely hot blonde, the pretty older brunette, the sexy Asian, or the attractive plus-sized girl. Nowhere else on TV can you find that diversity.
And that’s not even counting the recurring/guest characters like Chris O’Donnell and Christina Ricci. Also, no one on Grey’s is there only because of their hotness (no models turned actors, no “Jessica Albas”, etc.) which makes their attractiveness even more effective.

Of course, I don’t want to overstate the hotness factor in terms of overall viewership. Grey’s Anatomy certainly benefits from the hotness, but it’s not like it’s a total game breaker. If the cast of Grey’s were, say, 25% less hot, it’d still be a top ten show. But it probably wouldn’t be number one.

A Scandalous Hollywood Party Theme

04-04-2009 by admin

Your guests will love coming over for a scandalous Hollywood party this year. Since Hollywood is the home of scandal and drama you should have no trouble at all coming up with great ideas for this party theme. To get things rolling think about turning this Hollywood party into are mystery. You can create a clever game for the guests to take part in through out the party with a starlet’s murder, lots of clues and a prize for the person who solves the crime. This mystery game can be very easy to put together.

As each of your guests arrives at the party you can give them a pseudonym and turn them into players. Some guests will be cops, some directors, some actors and some agents; it’s entirely up to you concerning ratio and assignment. Then give each of these actors a card with a clue on it. The guests will have to mingle with each other in order to compare clues and make connections. The players can make alliances to combine clues or work alone trading a peek at their clue for someone else’s. Make yourself the Chief of Police and tell your guests that the first person to come to you with the name, motive and or method of murder correct is the winner.

To add to the party, create a mini scene of the crime by marking out a crude body outline on the floor with masking tape. You can also put up yellow warning tape in place of police tape. Hang some metallic streamers from the ceiling and put up wall hangings of stars. Paper supplies are an easy way to feed lots of people without a lot of clean up and there are plenty of Hollywood and Oscar themed kits with paper plates, napkins and tablecloths in them.

Doing And Not Doing – The Little Things Add Up

03-03-2009 by admin

For better or for worse, the things we do in life add up; even the little ones that may seem minuscule at the time.

Doing 25 pushups every two hours is an easy task and may seem inept. However, if you are awake 16 hours a day and maintain those pushups every two hours, it adds up to an extra 200 pushups a day! Compounded over time, you will likely notice improvements in your physique by doing so.

On the flip side, adding an extra scoop of mashed potatoes at the dinner table could easily add 200 more calories to your daily diet, which could make the difference between getting leaner, maintaining, or gaining weight.

These are but small examples, but I want you to think about your daily routine if you have one, and the things you do throughout it. Do you reach for the candy jar at work? Are you taking the stairs in place of the elevator? Do you pass on dessert or indulge in seconds?

A lot of people go to the gym religiously and THINK their diet is solid. And sure, in the big picture it may be. But when you start to add up the dietary faults and the lack of positive movements in your day, it may begin to come together why your current fitness plan is failing and why frustration occurs.

Just Say NO!

Not trying to be the Diet Nazi here, but think about how many times throughout the day junk food comes your way. On the average, I would say most people have several accounts of this. You don’t need to order fries with that burger. You can bypass the jar of jelly beans at the office. Catch my drift? And if you just can’t say no to certain things, there’s always another way. Skip the 600 calorie mocha in the morning and opt for a regular coffee with some nonfat milk instead, which will save you around 550 calories. Multiply that by 7 days in the week, and you’ve just cut 3850 calories – over a pound of fat! See how easy that was? But more importantly, how easy it is to slip without even realizing it, and becoming a victim of hidden calories and a bigger waistline.

Most people underestimate the amount of calories they take in each day. That’s simply because they don’t take into account all the little things that add up to big numbers. Don’t mistake me here, I don’t want you to count every calorie you take in – you will go insane trying to do so. Instead, just be aware that calories count and add up whether you acknowledge them as part of your diet or not.

Snacking can become a dangerous activity if you don’t pay at least a little bit of attention. Putting a bag of chips in front of someone watching TV is a recipe for calamity. Mindless eating, coupled with inactivity, is an easy way to pack on unwanted pounds.

Be Proactive at Being Active

I think it’s in our blood to try and get the closest parking spot available – it’s like some sort of mind control! I will see people circle the parking lot five times to park ten feet closer to the grocery store. Come on guys! Think about how ridiculous this really is! I actually try and park a distance away from my destination now, and know that I will add a little more walking to my day. Walking ten more feet a day isn’t going to make me leaner, but it’s the principle behind it that matters. Adjust your mindset and your body will be rewarded. Making the active decision on a constant basis WILL yield positive results over time.

Think how many opportunities you have each and every day to be more active. You are probably constantly being presented with the chance to do so.

I live on the third floor of my apartment and always take the stairs. If I go in and out of my apartment three times a day, up and down, it adds up to 18 flights of stairs a day. Over the course of a year, that is an extra 6570 flights of stairs! I’m not sure how many calories that is, but I know it’s a better option than being lazy and taking the elevator.

These decisions are what you should be considering. Really – take a minute and think about your day and what you can change to be more active. Then think about how these choices will add up and you will begin to realize the logic behind it.

Move More and Eat Less = A Leaner Physique

It’s such an easy concept, but it holds to be the truth. If you want to lose weight, simply move more and eat less. By changing your daily habits in this type of manner, I guarantee you will begin to notice positive changes to your body.

I like to look at the big picture in life and not worry so much about the small stuff. But your body does not think that way. It will absorb those “inbetween meal-junk food calories” and add them to your physique, usually in the form of love-handles or a bigger gut, neither of which are desirable.

The main point to take from all this is simply to be more aware of your daily habits. Assess the things your do – the good and the bad – and adjust accordingly so you can live a healthier lifestyle. This is not intended to be a fad type of change. Only when it becomes second nature have you truly succeeded in achieving the lesson I’m trying to teach you here.

Is Adam Ready For Hair Straightening?

03-02-2009 by admin

What would you normally see in a man’s closet? A pair of jeans, rubber shoes, sneakers, hair wax, deodorant, and a hair straightener. Yes, you read it correctly, a hair straightener! Commonly used by the ladies and now, guys are also buying it.

Men who use hair straighteners are called Metrosexuals. These are heterosexual men who are very particular about how they look and their everyday appearance. They display a variety of attributes of a typical lifestyle of a gay man – fashion, lives in the city, gym goer, disposable income and non-stop shopping.

The success of the reality show “Queer As Folks” made more and more men conscious with the way they look. From personal hygiene to the right and fashionable clothes, and from styling the mustache and beard to the right wax to use for the hair.

Men today are now going over beyond the stereotypical way of living. They spend money on branded clothes, perfumes, cosmetic products, and even pricey hair products such as hair straighteners. Men with curly hair would normally go to a barbershop and have it cut off really short or perhaps have it shaved all the way. Why? Because they find it very hard to manage especially when its too long and hair products don’t do the job anymore.

Hair straighteners work for men just as they work for women. Men with messy curly hair often see it as a curse not to get the latest and trendy hairstyles. Men stuck in an uncontrollable wavy or bushy hair often result to low self-esteem and frustration because no girls would want to date them. Everyone needs diversity and change, a new look that would alter the kind of lifestyle we live in.

You may find this gay-ish or too girly but believe it or not, there is an increasing number of men using hair straighteners including Hollywood actors and personalities likes David Beckham, Tom Cruise and Will Smith. These celebrities are not ashame for being branded as “metrosexuals” because they look good, they manage to look young and healthy even at their late 40′s. Because of this, the growth in men’s hairstyling alerted Cosmetics and Hair product companies to develop hair straighteners tailored especially for the men.

Although there are still some areas where men using hair straighteners are subjected to mockery and ridicule, more and more straight guys are actually buying these products to achieve the look they want. Men who are shy to go to salons to have their hair fixed would rather shop and do a do-it-your-own method where in they discover products such as hair straighteners to fix and style their hair the way they’ve always wanted it to be.

Men’s straightening flat iron is smaller and compact with thin plates enabling to get close to the root of the hair strands without harming the delicate scalp. It works perfectly with guys who have fringe which gives many more hair styles for men.

Still, whether you are a man or a woman, constant hair care and guidelines should be practiced. Frequent use of such hair products will lead to hair damage and breakage. Remember to pamper your hair once in a while.

The modern day men now putting in more stuff in their drawer and shower area. So ladies, the next time you shop for vanity, remember to buy extra for your partners.

The Phantom Of The Opera (Movie Review)

by admin

Nominated for 3 Academy Awards and 3 Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, The Phantom Of The Opera was one of the most talked about movies of 2004. Taking the smash commercial success of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage production to the big screen is no easy task, but long-time Hollywood director Joel Schumacher is more than able to get the job done. He takes an otherwise poorly written screenplay (minus the awe of a live performance no less) and manages to thrill the audience with the visual aspects of a film chiefly intended to rehash a successful stage musical. The costumes and set are simply magnificent, and Art Director John Fenner (Raiders Of The Lost Ark) helps Schumacher put together a fabulous production that’s well worth a movie-goer’s time…

The Phantom Of The Opera centers around a mysterious character who dwells underneath the Paris Opera House, imbibing himself on the music that emanates from above. Known as The Phantom (Gerard Butler), he wears a half-mask to cover the hideous facial scars that have plagued him since birth. A musical genius, the phantom is infatuated with the opera, and when he falls in love with the voice of a young chorus girl named Christine (Emmy Rossum – The Day After Tomorrow (2004), Mystic River (2003)), this love of the opera morphs into an outright obsession. The phantom provides Christine with one-on-one voice lessons, while during his spare time, he terrorizes the opera house in an effort to land his prot

Joseph Calleia: The Bit Part Actors’ Actor From the Island of Malta

31-01-2009 by admin

Joseph Calleia was born in Malta on the 4th of August, 1897. His official biography simply says Malta, but some of the people I have interviewed say he was born in the village of Rabat, others Sliema. Joseph had a very good singing voice and actually began his career as a concert singer in England and Paris. He came to Hollywood in 1931 and played the villain, Juan, in My Sin. His slightly menacing persona fit the role perfectly, and he was called upon to play similar characters often until his film career ended in 1963 with Johnny Cool. Perhaps his most famous role was the villain, Jeff Badger, in My Little Chickadee with W.C. Fields and Mae West. Though IMDb, which calls itself the world’s largest Film Data Base, credits him with 57 films, he played bit parts in many others, including one of my favorites, After the Thin Man.

Although Calleia naturally spent much of his time in Hollywood making movies, he remained true to his native country and returned there as often as possible. The people of Malta appreciated him and started a fan club in the early ‘forties. Unlike many Hollywood actors of the time, he always faithfully answered his fan mail and happily sent autographed pictures to anyone requesting them. Unfortunately for him, his name was probably as little known in his time as it is now. Asked about it, he is reputed to have replied, “Everyone recognizes my face, but no one knows my name.”

One of his favorite roles was Buldeo in the 1942 version of The Jungle Book, starring Sabu. Buldeo as an old man tells a tourist about the jungle and the time when a young boy was orphaned and raised by wolves. Calleia liked playing the much older man and found getting made up to be enjoyable, though most actors and actresses of the time hated the process. He also liked his role in A Touch of Evil, playing a friend of the corrupt Sheriff, Orson Welles. He felt it showed a vulnerability that was lacking in so many of his roles.

Joseph Calleia returned to Malta to retire and died on Halloween in 1975. His fan club is still in existence and has several hundreds of members around the world. In July of 1997, the government of Malta issued issued a set of two stamps in his honor.

"Forrest Gump" Teaches Many Lessons, and Tom Hanks Earns Best Actor Oscar

28-01-2009 by admin

Forrest Gump – 4 Stars (Excellent)

“Forrest Gump” begins with a feather being lifted through the air by a breeze that brings it to the feet of Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks), who is sitting at a bus stop in Savannah (GA). Gump picks it up and puts it in a “Curious George” children’s book. He then begins to tell the story of his life to the first of several people who are waiting with him for the next bus.

Some of the people are great listeners and others are not, but make no mistake about it, Gump is a master storyteller. He is simple, unpretentious, honest, not bright and full of integrity. For such a humble person, his story is almost unbelievable.

Forrest wears braces on his legs to walk in childhood, eludes the bullies who taunt him, makes friends with Jenny (Robin Wright Penn) who he will pursue his entire life, meets Elvis Presley, meets three Presidents-John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon, and receives the Congressional Medal of Honor for service in Vietnam, where he saves Lieutenant Dan (Gary Sinise) and loses his friend, Private “Bubba” (Mykelti Williamson).

At an anti-war rally in Washington, DC he briefly reunites with Jenny, whose life is a mess after searching for fame and pursuing a hippie lifestyle. Forrest starts a table tennis craze and becomes a nationally-known ping-pong whiz, using the money he earns to start a very successful shrimp boat business with Lt. Dan, who invests their money in Apple stock and both become wealthy in the process.

He then inspires people to jog, helps an entrepreneur create the smiley face stickers, and faces the loss of his mother (Sally Field), who tells him he must work out his own destiny. Through it all, Jenny and love eludes him. Forrest lived in turbulent times.

If you are dizzy just imagining all of this, so was I. After seeing Forrest Gump the first time I was appreciative of the film’s merit, but overwhelmed by how one person could accomplish so much and be around so many famous people. After watching Forrest Gump 3 more times, I got over it and now only sing its praises.

Eventually Jenny sees Forrest running on television and writes him a letter to come see her. When he does, he discovers that Jenny has a son and is very sick. She asks Forrest to marry her, and soon after he does, she dies. He learns that he is the father of her child, and commits to raising him. When young Forrest gets on the bus for his first day of school, the white feather falls from the Curious George book he is carrying, is caught in the breeze and drifts skyward.

If you are wondering about the feather, it was real, but its performance in the movie was computer-based. The feather is important because it raises the question of whether we are all floating around accidental-like on a breeze, or if we each actually have a destiny. Forrest surmises that perhaps it is both.

Everything that happens to Forrest Gump is worth seeing, and much of what happens teaches us important lessons in life. This is a love story, a story of relationships and the story of one person in a very big world that is sometimes almost impossible to understand. All that is good and much that is bad is covered in the film.

To appreciate where Forrest Gump is coming from, learn from these memorable lines in the film:

1) Lieutenant Daniel Taylor: “Have you found Jesus yet, Gump?” Forrest Gump: “I didn’t know I was supposed to be looking for him, sir.”

2) Forrrest Gump: (describing Vietnam) “We was always taking long walks, and we was always looking for a guy named Charlie.”

3) Jenny Curran: “Have you ever been with a girl, Forrest?” Forrest Gump: (nervously) “I sit next to them in my Home Economics class . . .”

4) Jenny Curran: “His name’s Forrest.” Forrest Gump: “Like me.” Jenny Curran: “I named him after his daddy.” Forrest Gump: “He got a daddy named Forrest, too?” Jenny Curran: “You’re his daddy, Forrest.”

5) Jenny Curran: “Do you ever dream, Forrest, about who you’re gonna be?” Forrest Gump: “Who I’m gonna be?” Jenny Curran: “Yeah.” Forrest Gump: “Aren’t-aren’t I going to be me?”

6) Forrest Gump: “I’m not a smart man . . . but I know what love is.”

7) Forrest Gump: “Mama always said life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” This line was voted 40th among the Top 100 Movie Quotes by the American Film Institute. In 2007, The AFI rated Forrest Gump as the 76th Greatest Movie of All Time.

8) Forrest Gump: “Stupid is as stupid does.”

Tom Hanks patterned his accent after young Forrest (Michael Conner Humphreys, who actually talked that way).

Forrest Gump was an immensely successful film, with a production cost of $55 million and a worldwide gross of $677+ million. After its release in 1994, it became the fastest grossing Paramount film to reach the $100 million, $150 million and $200 million marks, and passed $250 million in 66 days.

Even more important, Forrest Gump won 6 Oscars at the Academy Awards-for Best Picture, Tom Hanks for Best Actor, Robert Zemeckis for Best Director, Eric Roth for Best Screenplay based on Winston Groom’s novel, Arthur Schmidt for Best Film Editing, and Ken Ralston, George Murphy, Stephen Rosenbaum and Allen Hall for Best Visual Effects.

Forrest Gump also picked up another 7 Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor (Gary Sinise), Best Original Musical Score (Alan Silvestri), Best Set Decoration, Best Cinematography (Don Burgess), Best Makeup, Best Sound, and Best Sound Effects Editing.

Among its other 32 wins and 38 nominations were 7 Golden Globe nominations and wins for Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture.

As is true with just about any other award-winning production, many famous professionals passed on the opportunity to be part of the success. Terry Gilliam and Barry Sonnenfeld were offered the chance to direct the film. Bill Murray was considered for the role of Forrest, Chevy Chase turned down the role of Forrest, and three others turned down the role of Bubba-David Alan Grier, Dave Chappelle and Ice Cube.

Tom Hanks said that he would make the film only if all the events that took place were historically accurate. For example, when Gump calls to report the Watergate burglary, the security guard on duty answers the phone by saying, “Security, Frank Willis.” Willis was the actual guard on duty that night who discovered the break-in that led to Richard Nixon’s resignation from the Presidency.

Tom Hanks is one incredible, bankable actor. While Forrest Gump grossed $677 million and is far and away his biggest box office success, he has been involved in 19 other films grossing $100+ million, and he ranks 3rd among all actors appearing in films with $3.3 billion generated.

Forrest Gump was directed by Robert Zemeckis, with the screenplay written by Eric Roth based on Winston Groom’s novel. I really liked Forrest Gump and I think you will too. If you have seen it before, revisit it again and relive the magic moments of hope, courage, patience, love, understanding and compassion-all of which give special meaning to our life.

Young Actors – Six Tips For Success

25-12-2008 by admin

Acting is a popular career choice for a growing number of teens. Below are six expert tips for getting started in the fun and challenging world of professional acting.

1. Start at the Beginning Learn acting technique first and master it thoroughly. This is the basis of a long and successful career as a professional actor. The business of acting: getting representation and booking work, is secondary to developing your talent and technique. Join a class or work with a private coach teaching authentic acting technique including relaxation, sensory exercises and their application in monologues and scene study.

2. Read Plays, drama history, theory and criticism are essential reading material for every actor. You can learn pace, style and how to deconstruct a scene from reading the cannon of great and important plays. Many screenwriters begin as playwrights and dramaturges. Understanding their work for the stage or their theatrical influences gives you instant insight when approaching their film and television scripts at auditions.

3. Learn Acting from Actors If talent agents and casting associates could act, they would. Most can’t, and found another career, which better suits their talents. They have little of substance to offer student actors except stories about the business and a few do’s and don’ts for auditions. Don’t waste your time, energy or money in acting classes where the teacher has nothing substantive to offer on acting technique. There’s too much to learn!

4. Avoid Career Studios The sole focus of these schools is to make big bucks selling aspiring actors access to casting directors and talent agents. The plain truth is they allow anyone in their classes, regardless of talent or experience, as long as they can pay the fees. Sadly, most of the guest teachers – usually associates from talent agencies and casting offices – know this and are there only to make extra money, with little intention of auditioning or representing anyone in the class. On the rare occasion that an actor is given an audition, it’s usually for background or low paying, non-union work or stock photography. An actor is almost always chosen because they matched the physical breakdown. That actor would have done just as well mailing a headshot and resume to that agency office, saving the cost of the class. Staffers and many teachers at these studios work on commission. They use your perceived failure in one class as an opportunity to sell you another class or services they claim will make the difference in your career. Career studios put actors into a cycle of failure and should be avoided at all costs.

5. Consider a BFA degree If you truly want to pursue acting as a profession, apply to the best drama programs and pursue a BFA degree in drama or acting. These programs offer training in acting technique, drama theory and history and the time and environment in which to master the art and craft of acting. Actors with serious training and fine arts degrees from the top programs are sought out by agencies and casting directors because of the quality of their work and their proven commitment to an acting career. A terminal degree will also open doors to other areas of acting such as teaching, development, drama therapy, etc., which can be as fulfilling and creative as performing and help sustain you financially.

6. See EVERYTHING! From the tiniest start-up theatre company to Broadway; short films and low budget indie’s to whatever is packing people in at the multiplex. See everything time and your budget allows. This is the best way to develop your critical eye.
