“They’re heeeeerrrrreeeeee…”: Alien-(n)ation.
One of the most enduring and entertaining images of Hungarians during the second half of the 20th century is the idea of Hungarians as aliens or Martians. Much of this is tongue-in-cheek, is not intended to be pejorative, and has been exploited to good effect and with great enjoyment by Hungarians themselves – to the point of their likely having been behind its origination. There are multiple overlapping/competing descriptions of how all this started. Consensus suggests that it came out of the circles of

21-08-2009 by adminHow To Get A Disney Channel Acting Audition
05-08-2009 by admin
Kids all over the country dream of making it big in show business. While acting jobs can be hard to land, it is possible to break into this difficult field by answering a call for a Disney Channel acting audition. Many of today’s hottest young entertainers got their start from a Disney Channel acting audition. Though there are sometimes hundreds, or even thousands of people competing for just a few spots, this has been the big break that boosted the career of many performers.
The easiest way to land a Disney Channel acting audition is through an agent. They are made aware of current calls and will have the specifics of the open roles available. It is much easier for inexperienced actors and actresses to get themselves noticed by using an agent than attempting to land these highly sought after roles on their own. While there are ways of getting a Disney Channel acting audition on your own, this is the simplest route.
A great resource that will allow you an inside look at a Disney Channel acting audition listing is the Disney website at http://corporate.disney.go.com/auditions/. Their corporate section has a special page that will let the public know about any open auditions, casting calls, or extras opportunities. While this may not get you the scoop on every Disney Channel acting audition, it can be a foot in the door if you do not have an agent. Check this page regularly to see what auditions are being offered nearest you.
Though winning a part through a Disney Channel acting audition can be difficult, with hard work it is possible. Just take a look at all of the big name celebrities who have become hugely successful after a start on the Disney Channel. Who knows, maybe you could be the next huge success!
Actors Are Psychic Channels – Why Emotional Instability And Drug Addictions Are So Common
30-07-2009 by admin
Why do so many great actors and actresses have such difficulty dealing with their emotional well-being? Almost daily we hear about entertainers who have a history of drug abuse or who take heavy doses of anti-depressants. Many of these conditions are diagnosed by medical professionals as nervous disorders or low self-esteem, however the standard medical treatments have not yet resolved this widespread social phenomenon. There are many metaphysical details about acting that remain unknown to most of the acting population. As long as these details are ignored, many actors and actresses will continue to fall in the trap of drug abuse and heavy prescription medicine.
Acting in itself is a form of channeling. This form of channeling is not the same, for example, as psychics who communicate with spirits or other non-physical beings. This form of channeling is focused on emotional responses associated with certain events. Actors either retrieve their emotional response from their personal past experience, or they retrieve these emotions from the greater Universe’s Akashic records. When the director says “Action”, some actors almost go into a trance and actually become the characters they portray.
Think of the Akashic records as the Universe’s Hall of Records, where every thought, word, feeling, and event of the past, present, and future is recorded. It is all there. With the right level of consciousness, this information can be accessed. In the Akashic records, events and emotions are generally recorded together. It is very similar to data stored on a computer hard drive. When an actor channels the emotions they need for their role, in many instances, they also have to download/channel from the Akashic records some of the story line/events that are attached to the emotions. When someone practices accessing multiple levels of emotions, their energy body reaches out into the Universal source of emotions and if these actors and actresses are not aware of energy practices, it becomes harder to disconnect from the Universe’s source and restructure their own energy body.
For instance, if an actress is acting a rape scene, she channels the fear and anger from a rape victim’s memory in the Akashic records. This memory and emotion becomes the actresses own, to a degree. In her real life, she may begin to have recurrent feelings of being raped, although it has never happened to her before. In the same scene, as a male actor portrays the rapist’s attitudes of violence against women, that actor may go home and later wonder why he has begun to feel remnants of that desire for violence. In his confusion, the actor may become filled with shame and decide that even discussing these feelings is not an acceptable social behavior. Consequently, the actor may decide to keep it to himself and suppresses his feelings. As more and more of these unreleased emotions/events actors have channeled during performances accumulates, the chosen remedy often becomes numbing themselves with medication or drugs. Lasting peace will only come from first becoming aware of these energies, and then neutralizing/discharging the emotional residues.

America’s Infatuation with Hollywood Stars
24-07-2009 by admin
I am sure we all are infatuated with Hollywood stars. From the time of the birth of the movie capital of the world, Hollywood, we cannot take our eyes off these charming people. They can even be called the Royal Family of America if this is not too insolent. Unfortunately, the infatuation with Hollywood Stars grows into an obsession for some fans. These fans transform their homes into shrines to their favorite celebrity. Their lives become centered on just one idea – the Hollywood Stars.
Hollywood is not trying to prevent this ugly situation either. In fact, Hollywood does everything it can to promote this fascination with Hollywood stars. Both young and old actors are subjected to this. Even the dead Hollywood stars cannot rest in peace because they are constantly the subject of gossip.
On the World-Wide-Web, you can find information on how to track a star or simply some gossips concerning the personal life of the Hollywood star (if the Hollywood star succeeds in having one at all). We may say that Internet nurtures this obsession in many people.
You can read on the net where a Hollywood star lives, where a Hollywood star goes shopping, which night club a Hollywood star visits, where a Hollywood star goes to church, where a Hollywood star is laid to rest!
The famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre sidewalk is a place where many Hollywood stars have eternalized their handprints and footprints in the cement. This is one of the obsessed fans’ favorite places for tourism.
Hollywood stars realize that they have become legends when they are invited to leave their footprint in the cement. Hollywood stars as Groucho Marx and John Wayne have preferred to represent their personalities by leaving a style mark. Such style marks are Groucho Marx’s cigar and John Wayne’s fist.
Tourist agencies offer tours around the Hollywood stars’ homes. I was frankly surprised when I heard that some Hollywood stars specialize in presenting scenes of celebrity scandals and deaths. If you wish, you can visit the house where Marilyn Monroe died, where Sharon Tate was murdered, and where O.J.Simpson was arrested.
I almost feel obliged to add that there are tourist agencies, which offer visits to graves of Hollywood stars. They give profound information how to find such notabilities as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Spencer Tracy or Gregory Peck.
If do not succeed to come across a real Hollywood star or you do not like the idea of visiting a grave, Hollywood offers wax museums for you. There next to each other are placed Clint Eastwood and Spider-Man!
Very attractive turn out to be the Hollywood stars of the 1940’s, 50’s and early 60’s. This can be explained by the fact that these decades had been a more glamorized time and then the Hollywood stars were compared with royalties.
Hollywood was a completely different world in the past, Hollywood stars either were different. During the 1940’s, 50’s and early 60’s the Hollywood stars were just a part of the studio system, signed up to the studios and protected by them. However, scandals were bursting even then. This was a romantic time. This was the time when the bad guys wore black hats and the good guys wore white hats. This was the time when the man stood up when the lady entered the room.
Movie Review – The Best of the Best Movies For 1-2009
16-07-2009 by admin
It has been a long time since I did a movie review, or given my opinion on movies, I avoid them, as I try to avoid my opinion on many areas in arts until I find something extraordinary to write, or it stands out above the rest. Having said that let me pick out a few movies worth my time, and the best of the best.
Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in “Righteous Kill” was a worthwhile movie, and gave everyone a surprised ending. They are both well seasoned actors, and it appeared for a while they went backwards in acting, now they got a serious roll, instead of some quick earned cash where all they got to do is move their baby finger.
Another worthwhile movie was the recent one by Liam Neeson, whom seemed to me had retired from the screen, he is back, “Taken,” is a move that we all can identify with, and he does what we’d all like to do, Liam doesn’t let the movie goers down.
The remake of “The Day the World Stood Still,” most remakes are not worth their salt, like the two or three made of “King Kong,” they just get worse, but this one was good, actually a little better than the original and I saw the original when it first came out, and that is hard for me to say.
Keanu Reeves was good in movie, I think he kind of stepped back for a while making movies not worth making, but he made up for all that lazy time, this time, and got paid for acting, instead of just being there. Good Job, he is a young actor, and is back on track.
A strange move called “Red,” came out with Brian Cox and Tom Sizemore (Robert Englund), it is a slow going movie at first, and one does not expect what happens to happen, vengeance is sweet, and the acting is smooth.
But for my money the best of the best, was the movie “Gran Torino,” by Clint Eastwood. The acting is good, even by the actors I never seen before. The theme is good, the plot builds up, and the ending, fools you, and you’ll be satisfied.
It is a movie with a lot of bad language in it, swearing that is, and I don’t care for that, and there is too much of that in movies nowadays, but somehow it fits in this movie, I hate to say. It is Mr. Eastwood’s best movie, or show since “Unforgiving.”
“Appaloosa” the cowboy move, with Viggo Mortensen, Ed Harris in it is a worth while move, and Renee Zellweger plays a worthwhile part, actually her part remained me of someone in my youth, along with Jeremy Irons.
They, the movie makers, seem nowadays to have a hard time making good old westerns, but this one is worth my time.
Well, I hate to tell you what I think of the rest of the junk out there, and there is a lot of it…so if you got nothing good to say, it is best leave it alone.
Last Notes:
I remember Clint, when he was playing in those early cowboy movies, over in Italy, he always got the last punch in. And those Dirty Harry movies, he killed every one, I think he borrowed Elvis’ upper lip for those movies. Anyhow, in his second to last good movie, “Unforgiven,” he went home to retire. In this most recent movie, the Gran…he dies. What is the message here? Perhaps this is his last one. Now he can rest, or play with his music, he like that I understand. Or maybe can do some good for mankind, besides entertaining them for thirty-million to start. Anyhow, good luck.
To be quite honest, I don’t have a lot of anything for actors. They come and go, and fade into the dust, when they think they will live on forever, and live like it. Well, if that is the case, farewell to a man who did nothing but act which he did well, and like everyone in such a career in Hollywood, he will be replaced soon. And forgotten soon after.
Audition Monologues – How to Choose Monologues That Work
05-06-2009 by admin
Choosing the right audition monologues can make all the difference. Monologues are such an important actor tool when it comes to getting work, especially when you’re starting out and attending a lot of open calls, where monologues rule. Usually, actors are asked for a dramatic monologue, a comedic monologue, or both. But what makes a good comedic or dramatic monologue?
The Dramatic Monologue
Here’s something to keep in mind… What casting directors mean when they say “dramatic monologue” is something that’s not comedic. What does that mean? It means you don’t have to pick a gloomy soliloquy where the character cries or yells hysterically just because you’ve been asked for a dramatic monologue. First of all, casting directors see these audition monologues all day long when they cast a drama and will often welcome a change. Secondly, most roles you’ll be auditioning for simply don’t require this level of very dramatic acting. It feels good, of course, to show someone what you can do as an actor, but make sure you’re not missing callbacks because your choices of dramatic monologues have casting directors mistakenly thinking you’re “too big” for the role. If it’s Othello or Lady Macbeth, of course it makes sense to pick an audition piece where you can showcase an outpour of great emotions. Most plays being cast are not so dramatic and you’ll do much better picking material that is closer to what will be required of you for the role.
Comedic Monologues
The same goes for comedic monologues. All casting directors mean with “comedic monologue” is something that’s not dramatic. That doesn’t mean you have to have everyone roll on the floor with laughter when you perform. There are so many different types of comedies: romantic comedies, slapstick, sketch comedy… What it comes down to is what role you’re auditioning for. When picking a comedic monologue for a particular audition, ask yourself, “What does the casting director need to see in this monologue to believe I could play the character I’m auditioning for?” Does he need to see strong characterization? A knack for physical comedy? Comedic timing? Pick a monologue that showcases these abilities.
The in-between monologue
Many acting roles are not really comical or dramatic. These “serio-comic roles” are the parts you’ll probably find yourself auditioning for the most, especially if you’re starting out and are not auditioning for leads yet. There are a multitude of supporting roles in both drama and comedies that are not about being funny or bringing on the waterworks. They are just here to move the story forward in an interesting way. When auditioning for these roles, pick a monologue that really highlights who you are. Actors spend a lot of time in acting school learning how to create characters – and that does come in handy when you get a great role – but 99% of the time, you’ll get cast for playing a version of yourself. So choose an “in-between” monologue you have a strong connection to. Choose an audition piece that allows you to show range and different facets of your personality. Ideally, you want a monologue where you can make different acting choices depending on the role you’re auditioning for. After all, you don’t want to have to find a new monologue for each audition, plus making different choices from time to time will help keep your acting fresh. Finally, try to pick material that will showcase your acting strengths while downplaying your weaknesses.
Narrowed your audition monologue search down to a few choices? Some monologues are more “performable” then others and some monologues speak to us more then others.
Choosing a monologue that inspires your creativity
Before you spend hours working on your new selection, make sure you pick material that will inspire you to do great acting so you’ll get that callback. To make sure that’s the case, ask yourself the following questions…
Can you “think” the words of your monologue? When you read your monologue aloud, do the words come together for you and tell a story without you trying to act at all?) Will you have fun working on this monologue? If you do, you’ll think up little details about the circumstances and the character that will make your performance unique and more real. Will you be able to make strong choices when you perform this monologue? Is there a lot of room for you to write your own subtext and bring in your creativity to the role?
Hope these tips help you find the perfect audition monologue for you.
Hannibal Rising Movie Review
22-05-2009 by admin
BOTTOM LINE: Despite some great cinematography, an effective atmosphere, and a decent attempt by the lead actor to mimic Anthony Hopkins’ original performance as Hannibal, this is a completely pointless sequel with no shocks or surprises, that unnecessarily demystifies the character of Hannibal Lecter and in the process makes him less scary.
THE GOOD: Hannibal Lecter, as he first appeared in “The Silence of the Lambs” is arguably one of the best, if not the best, movie villain of all time. We’ve had a few sequels since then and “Hannibal Rising” is number 4, the first without Anthony Hopkins in the lead. With Hollywood’s obsession with prequels (thanks George Lucas), this film unsurprisingly takes us back to the beginning of Hannibal’s life and shows us the events that made him in to such an evil serial killer. The performance of Gaspard Ulliel is quite effective, and you can tell that he must studied the first three films over and over again because he’s got that clever, able-to-outwit-anyone charm that Hopkins delivered so well. He also looks quite scary in the scenes he needs to be in. The film is beautifully shot; the bulk of the film takes place in post-war Europe and the footage we see is very well staged and mounted. Many of the shots, along with the disturbing musical score create a moody, chilling atmosphere that is enjoyable to watch. Gong Li also adds much to proceedings as Hannibal’s Aunt who unwittingly helps him do his bad deeds.
THE BAD: I said pointless right? Yep, this film is completely pointless and unnecessary to the point of actually doing harm to the original character. Why? Hannibal Lecter is a character that shouldn’t have to be explained. It’s far scarier if we don’t know how he became what he was. The thought that he ‘just is’ makes for a far scarier character. In this film, we get a revenge plot where young Hannibal goes after those who ate his little sister and it makes him deeply sympathetic which is just plain wrong. But even if we were to go along with this, it’s still not well built. The story is told in such a way that we just have to accept that Hannibal became what he was based on that one incident.
We go from him being a cute kid to psychopathic teenager serial killer in a matter of moments. Since we know Hannibal survives to go on to become who he is, there are no surprises or shocks as we know he’ll survive (and the way the story is mounted, he is in peril at times but we know he’s not). I also mentioned how good Gaspard Ulliel’s acting was; unfortunately his appearance doesn’t match. His face is long and thin yet Hopkins is round and wide. Can a person’s face change like that? Overall, this film detracts from the original character of Hannibal Lecter and despite having some good points, it’s just a flat out waste of time and shouldn’t have been made.
Desperate Housewives – Jesse Metcalfe’s Friends Stand By Him
10-05-2009 by admin
In the chaos that defines the world of show businesses, it comes as no surprise that celebrities, old and young alike, turn to desperate measures in order to cope with the stress and pressures of being in the limelight.
Going into high-end rehabilitation centers seems to be a flourishing trend among the entertainment community today. Pop artist Britney Spears made headlines again in early 2007 when she shaved her head bald before checking into a treatment center based in Miami, Florida. Now, its former Desperate Housewives star, Jesse Metcalfe, who has found himself in a distressing situation, and in an attempt to battle his alcoholism, has entered a rehabilitation center located in Los Angeles.
Among those who were shocked to hear about the news was his former Desperate Housewives co-star, Eva Longoria. Longoria got to know Metcalfe very well, and the fact that he has a serious drinking problem is contradictory to the person she remembers from the set. Nevertheless, the star has pledged nothing but support for Metcalfe, and is happy that he has decided to act responsibly.
Metcalfe is also getting a lot of support from his girlfriend, Nadine Coyle, a member of the British female music group, Girls Aloud. Metcalfe and Coyle met in Australia in 2006, and has since then become a celebrity couple. They separated very briefly in November, and a few days before Metcalfe went to the rehabilitation center, rumors were flying that they had tied the knot. Coyle’s father, Niall, was also caught unaware of Metcalfe’s condition, and even thought that the young actor was not much of a drinker. In addition, Niall says that her daughter is extremely saddened about Metcalfe and is upset that she did not catch any telltale signs.
Although Metcalfe rose to fame with his portrayal of handsome teenager John Rowland in the popular television series, Desperate Housewives, he first appeared in the small screen with a starring role in the soap opera, Passions. His other acting credits include Smallville, John Tucker Must Die and 44 Minutes: The North Hollywood Shoot-Out.
The Good-Looking Cast of Grey’s Anatomy
18-04-2009 by admin
Grey’s Anatomy is currently the #1 television show in the universe. It’s given time slot competitor CSI: a beat down, something that the Vegas-set, formulaic, turd producer has never experienced before. Grey’s Anatomy is a very good show with an extremely attractive cast. EXTREMELY attractive. What makes Grey’s good television is it’s unique humor, it’s ability to balance that huge cast and numerous storylines, and the strangely riveting medical subplots. But, we understand all of that. What I’m interested in are the hot chicks.
Actually, that’s not be entirely true. While I’m not “interested” in the dudes on the show, they’ll need to be added to the discussion. What discussion, you ask? Obviously, TV has always been a medium for the beautiful. But, how important is it, actually? Sure, you always want an alluring cast, but casting directors have always shied away from the total shamelessness of an all-attractive cast. Still, the attractiveness of a shows cast must have some effect on it’s ratings, right?
My thesis is bold: Grey’s Anatomy has the most effectively attractive cast in the history of television and that’s a big factor in making Grey’s Anatomy the top-rated show in America. Obviously, this is an unquantifiable assertion. Yet, it makes perfect sense when you break it down.
Grey’s Anatomy has a humongous cast. This certainly makes things easier. Television comedies can’t compete with a show like Grey’s simply because they have less people to be attractive. The best looking sitcom cast ever is probably “Friends”, and that’s only on the strength of Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston, two Hall-of-Famers. However, I’m looking at the whole spectrum here, which means adding the male contingent of the cast to the argument. Friends doesn’t fare as well in that department.
The only shows that can really compete with the Grey’s Anatomy cast are the prime time soap operas, the most formidable one probably being “Beverly Hills 90210″. Now, for sake of the argument, I’m only taking into account casts who were on-the-air together. This means Tiffani Amber-Thiessen cannot be considered in the same cast as Shannen Doherty (although it wouldn’t really matter, considering Doherty was never that hot in the first place). At one point, Thiessen, Jennie Garth, Hilary Swank, Jason Priestly, and Luke Perry were all on the same show. However, their were some other cast members who brought the attractiveness down considerably (mainly Ian Zeiring.)
My point is, there are other shows that may compete with Grey’s hotness; it is, of course, entirely subjective anyway (maybe you find the cast of “The View” aesthetically pleasing). But, what I said was that Grey’s Anatomy had the most effectively attractive cast ever. This isn’t any easier to quantify, but I think it’ll be easier for all of us to agree on. The reason Grey’s Anatomy has the best looking cast ever is because of the diversity of it’s attractiveness. Take a look.
Girl Next Door Who Got Really Hot – Dr. Elizabeth Grey (Ellen Pompeo)
Older Heartthrob – Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey)
Younger Heartthrob – Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers)
Voluptuous, Sexy Blonde – Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl)
Proper, Statuesque, Black Man – Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington)
Hot, Older Brunette – Dr. Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh)
Geeky, Awkward Dude – Dr. George O’Malley (T.R. Knight)
Quirky, Cute Asian – Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh)
Uninhibited, Chubby Sex Kitten – Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez)
Do you see why this is the number one show in America? Almost any type of person that anyone could possibly be attracted to is represented on Grey’s Anatomy. Women can choose between the young good-looking guy, the older good-looking guy, the black good-looking guy, or the shy guy. Men get the super-cute brunette, the extremely hot blonde, the pretty older brunette, the sexy Asian, or the attractive plus-sized girl. Nowhere else on TV can you find that diversity.
And that’s not even counting the recurring/guest characters like Chris O’Donnell and Christina Ricci. Also, no one on Grey’s is there only because of their hotness (no models turned actors, no “Jessica Albas”, etc.) which makes their attractiveness even more effective.
Of course, I don’t want to overstate the hotness factor in terms of overall viewership. Grey’s Anatomy certainly benefits from the hotness, but it’s not like it’s a total game breaker. If the cast of Grey’s were, say, 25% less hot, it’d still be a top ten show. But it probably wouldn’t be number one.
