His parents have been involved with the Children of God Cult but left in 1978 due to falling faith in the said religious cults ideals. He initially wanted to change his name to Leaf as his siblings were so named after nature but changed it back to Joaquin at age 15. He was thrust in and out of the media spotlight as he fought for recognition in the industry all five children in his family has been part of. His calls to 911 when he tried to save his brothers life (River) who tragically died of a drug overdose in the Hollywood Nightclub Viper Room gave him negative attention. With 23 films under his belt, he would surely be on many more films in the years to come.
